There is a standard way to make a beanie and then there is the rainbow warrior way! I like to crochet my beanies in a continual round; therefore eliminating that ugly seam \(^_^\) Here’s how I do it:
Yarn: medium worsted weight; approx 100 yds [Red Heart Super Saver]
Materials: Size J / US 10 (6.0 mm) crochet hook
Scissors & needle
Begin with a magic loop & ch 1 to secure.
Round 1: 12 dc into ML & sl st to join. (12 st)
*Do not ch at the beg of the round or sl st at the end. This will give your hat a seamless look. You will be working in a continual round; use a stitch marker to place your last stitch.
Round 2: 2 dc in ea st (24 st)
Round 3: *2 dc in first st, 1 dc in next st* (36 st)
Round 4: *2 dc in first st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st* (48 st)
Round 5-11: 1 dc in ea st
Round 12: hdc in ea st
Round 13: sc in ea st & sl st to join.
Pull yarn through and sew in ends.
This beanie fits a standard adult size. A size I / US 9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook works for this pattern if your head is not very large. This pattern is adjustable. If you need to make the beanie smaller or larger you can use a different size crochet hook. You can increase the number of stitches in order to make the hat less fitted.
This is my standard crochet beanie pattern. I love it because its super simple and very fast! I use this pattern as a base for many of my character beanies. If you make this hat (or any of my patterns) please share a picture with me! Links to my other sites HERE
